I call these epic little wonders ‘Nature’s own fairy lights… it doesn’t get better than this. The dell is easily accessible and best of all it’s free, just the way nature should be. Prepare to be surprised, these guys have been hanging out here and multiplying for years and there are ‘heaps’ as the real kiwi’s put it. I liken one section to the milky way, don’t forget to look up and check out the real namesake at the same time.

WHAT I LIKE:
It’s awesome to see nature just the way it should be enjoyed. Free and not ‘touristafied’ with a gate and open and closing hours.

BEST TIME TO GET THERE:
The hungrier they are the brighter they are and as long as it’s dark you’ll always spot these little guys rain, hail or shine.

DURATION:
Only 10 minutes walk from Drifting Sands and a minute off the main road.

…and if you are keen for an altogether different experience check out the location below. It’s a ten minute drive away but highly recommended. I am not going to share an image this time because the surprise is the best bit.

This location is like sneaking into a magical little wonderland movie set.
Sometimes the best locations are the ones that are a little harder to find but ohh so worth it. Use the fabulous ‘what three words’ app to find this hidden gem and it’ll take you right there.

The surprise of the experience… i’m not saying anything more except see it for yourself!
